Tam Vu is the Thomas A. and Georgina Tugwell Russo Distinguished Professor in Computer Science at Dartmouth College and the Founder and CEO of Earable Neuroscience.
Dr. Vu is a pioneer in Earable Computing. He introduced the term “Earable Systems”, describing ear-based sensing and stimulation computing systems. These systems use the ear’s proximity to key physiological signals—such as brain activity, eye movements, and facial muscles—to capture data with high fidelity and low intrusion. This approach has influenced the technology industry, including companies like Apple and Google, in the development of advanced human-computer interaction and health monitoring tools.
Prior to Dartmouth, Dr. Vu was an Associate Professor at Oxford University and the University of Colorado Boulder. He founded the Mobile and Networked Systems (MNS) Lab, focusing on wearable and mobile systems that leverage physiological signals for enhanced human-computer interactions and healthcare. His research led to more than 35 patents and numerous awards, including the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, NSF CAREER Award, Google Faculty Research Awards, and 12 Best Paper Awards.
